Open Access Publication Fund

Publishers may charge authors fees in the form of APCs or BPCs for Open Access publications. These fees can be covered in full or in part by the University of Passau Library's Open Access Publication Fund, subject to compliance with the funding conditions (see below).

Our Open Access Publication Fund has been supported by the DFG funding programme 'Open Access Publication Funding' since 2022.

If your publication fulfils the following funding conditions, you can submit an application for funding of the Open Access fees using this online form.

Funding requirements for ...

  • Corresponding author is a member of the University of Passau.
  • The selected journal publishes all articles in full and immediately after publication in open access (= pure open access journal) and is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
  • The article and the journal fulfil the scientific quality criteria applicable to the respective subject.
  • The article is published under an Open Access-compliant licence (e.g. a Creative Commons licence).
  • The maximum funding amount for the publication fee (APC) is 2,000 euros per article (incl. VAT). Pro rata funding is possible.
  • Applicants do not have the option of paying the publication costs from third-party funds intended for this purpose, e.g. publication funds within the framework of DFG, BMBF or EU projects.
  • Publications financed by the Open Access Publication Fund must contain the Funding Acknowledgement "We acknowledge support by the Open Access Publication Fund of University Library Passau." or "Die Publikation wurde durch die Universität Passau finanziell unterstützt (Open-Access-Publikationsfonds der Universitätsbibliothek).".
  • The funded article will also be made available via the repository of the University Library OPUS Passau.

  • The authorship or editorship lies with a member of the University of Passau.
  • The publication fulfils the academic quality criteria applicable to the respective subject.
  • The publication is published under an Open Access-compliant licence (e.g. a Creative Commons licence).
  • Applicants do not have the option of paying the publication costs from third-party funds intended for this purpose, e.g. publication funds within the framework of DFG, BMBF or EU projects.
  • Funding is provided for the Open Access part of the publication up to a fixed funding amount. Pro rata funding is possible.
  • Only open access fees can be funded. Printing and typesetting costs are not covered.
  • Publications funded by the Open Access Publication Fund must include the Funding Acknowledgement "We acknowledge support by the Open Access Publication Fund of University Library Passau." or "Die Publikation wurde durch die Universität Passau finanziell unterstützt (Open-Access-Publikationsfonds der Universitätsbibliothek)." must be included.
  • The funded publication will also be made available via the repository of the University Library OPUS Passau.
  • Excellent, previously unpublished dissertations can also be funded if the University of Passau is the degree-awarding institution.
    (Note: Publication on OPUS Passau is a free alternative to publication with a publisher. This also allows doctoral candidates to fulfil their obligation to publish).
