OPUS and OJS

The University Library offers members of the University of Passau the opportunity to publish in Open Access free of charge. For this purpose, we operate the university repository OPUS Passau and the software OJS (Open Journal Systems) for journals.

OPUS Passau

The OPUS Passau repository is used to publish academic texts produced at the University of Passau. This service makes it possible to make your work easily, promptly and freely accessible via the Internet. You can upload the document yourself and add descriptive information; the OPUS team at the University Library then checks the upload and authorises it.

Each publication is assigned a URN, a persistent identifier, via which the text can be permanently cited. It is also sent to the German National Library (DNB), is listed in its catalogue and remains available there in the long term.
In the declaration of consent (in German), which you should sign and send to us by e-mail or post, you transfer to the library a simple distribution right for publication under a CC license or under the specified standard conditions.

You are welcome to use OPUS Passau to fulfil the publication obligation as part of the doctoral procedure. The publication of other student theses is possible with an informal recommendation from the supervisor.
A second publication of texts already published with a publisher is also often possible, depending on the publisher's conditions.

OJS

The OJS (Open Journal Systems) software is specially designed for editing and publishing e-journals. It allows separate e-journals, divided into articles and organised by issue, to be presented clearly and freely accessible under a common interface managed by the University Library.
The library advises you on structuring, supports you in entering the texts and designing the website and handles publication for you. In addition, DOIs are assigned as persistent identifiers at article level and the journal is included in the Passau search portal, the Bavarian Union Catalogue and the Electronic Journals Library. The articles can also be found via search engines such as Google Scholar and BASE.
Please contact ub-publizieren@uni-passau.de with your journal project and if you have any further questions.
