Artificial intelligence applications are currently on everyone's lips, but the use of chatbots such as ChatGPT raises questions about the trustworthiness of the results and the transparency of the sources, especially in the scientific field.

Elsevier is now offering an AI application for researchers within the Scopus literature database called Scopus AI. This should make it possible to generate precise summaries of research topics and further questions. Scopus AI is based on a RAG architecture ("Retrieval Augmented Generation"), in which the relevance search is combined with a Large Language Model (LLM), which uses the metadata of the Scopus database as a knowledge base. The search queries can also be made in natural languages. The AI then generates topic summaries based on the publications recorded in Scopus, suggests follow-up questions to the initial question and offers links to original research.

Passau University Library will have test access from 8 May to 7 June 2024 and invites all university members to test the new search technology.

Access to Scopus AI

All members of the University of Passau can access the Scopus literature database via the Database Information System (DBIS). There you will also find further access options if you are outside the university network. You can access the AI search via the "Scopus AI" tab directly in the Scopus search interface.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the University Library (contact person: Dr Cornelia Bögel). You are also welcome to give us direct feedback via a questionnaire in Stud.IP and tell us about your experiences with Scopus AI.

Introductory webinar

You are of course welcome to discover Scopus AI on your own or use the introductory explanations from Elsevier.

On 13 May 2024 from 16:00 to 16:45 there will be an introductory live webinar on Scopus AI with representatives of the provider, for which you can register in Stud.IP (Stud.IP no.: ScopusAI).
