The University Library and the Centre for Information Technology and Media Services (ZIM) wish to inform you of a change to external access to licensed electronic media. The existing external access to e-books, e-journals and databases via EZproxy (docweb) will be replaced by an eduVPN profile.
During October and November, EZproxy and eduVPN will be available in parallel. After 30 November 2026, EZproxy will be decommissioned.
Two access routes will continue to be available for accessing e-books, e-journals and databases from outside the campus:
- eduVPN with the new "E-media access" profile
- Institutional login (Shibboleth/SSO) with supporting providers
Various eduVPN profiles are available. The "Personal" and "Default" profiles continue to serve, as before, for access to internal university services such as network drives. For accessing the University Library's licensed e-media, the new "E-media access" profile is required.
Why the switch to eduVPN?
As part of the further development of the library and search infrastructure, external access to licensed e-media is being reorganised. eduVPN provides a future-proof and secure solution offering multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Note on existing EZproxy links
If you use bookmarks, course materials or websites with prepended EZproxy links (docweb.rz.uni-passau.de/login?url=springer.com... or springer-com.docweb.rz.uni-passau.de), these links will no longer work after 30 November 2026. Where necessary, please ensure that you update your materials in good time.
Note on ProQuest LibCentral
If you have created a "bookshelf" in your ProQuest account, please back up its contents by 1 November 2026 at the latest in accordance with these instructions. After that, login will be switched from the ProQuest account to the central University of Passau account. This will make it necessary to re-import your saved content. As of 2 November 2026, you can re-assign your saved books to your account using these instructions and use them as before.
