Wi-Fi on campus

The university's Wi-Fi is frequently used to capacity during the exam period. At the moment, traffic is so busy that our wireless services are operating at their limit. This is why we have repeatedly experienced limited supply and performance breakdowns in the last few days.

We are very sorry about that. Our staff working at the Centre for Information Technology and Media Services (ZIM) are doing everything they can to counter these kinds of peaks in demand. Furthermore, the university will upgrade the Wi-Fi on campus once again this year.

In case you still find yourself having problems with your Wi-Fi connections, you can try the following:

  • If your device is capable of receiving WLAN 802.11a at 5GHz frequency, you can try changing to “CampusUniPassau-5GHz”, or “eduroam-5GHz”. These networks might be less busy. Your device will automatically show you these networks if it is capable of receiving at 5GHz frequency.
  • Changing your position might help: You can try out different locations on the campus.
  • Please refrain from downloading or streaming videos, if possible, as this puts a lot of strain on the Wi-Fi capacity.
  • Try not to access Wi-Fi with several devices simultaneously. Instead, disable Wi-Fi access on any device you are not currently using. Even when not under use, devices connected to Wi-Fi will still stunt the network’s capacity.
