news-42346 Mon, 01 Dec 2025 06:00:00 +0100 Closure and extended reading room lending hours – Special opening of the Juridicum reading room https://www.ub.uni-passau.de/en/news/meldung/betriebsruhe-und-verlaengerte-lesesaalausleihe-sonderoeffnung-lesesaal-juridicum The reading rooms will be open until Monday, 22 December. On this last day of opening, the university library will close at 4 p.m. and then go into hibernation. From 7 January, the University Library will open as usual and all reading rooms and services will be available again. As an exception to this, the Juridicum reading room will already be open in reduced form from 2 to 5 January. Details of the opening hours can be found here.

Media orders via the Passau search portal can be placed until Wednesday, 17 December, and can be picked up until Monday, 22 December. Research, external access to e-media and self-service functions such as account viewing, renewals, and reservations will be available without restriction throughout the period of closure.

The University Library offers extended borrowing of reading room holdings to students and non-university members over Christmas and New Year. Reading room books borrowed from Tuesday, 2 December onwards will be recorded with a return date after 6 January 2026. Please check your borrowing account for the respective return date.

However, please note that you still have to return media borrowed from the closed stacks or via interlibrary loan on time or renew them in your library account.

news-42383 Tue, 25 Nov 2025 08:35:04 +0100 26 and 27 November: Limited heating in three reading rooms https://www.ub.uni-passau.de/en/news/meldung/26-und-27-november-eingeschraenkte-heizung-in-drei-lesesaelen On Wednesday, 26 November 2025, the Central Library, the Economics Reading Room, and the Nikolakloster Reading Room can only be supplied with limited heating. Significantly reduced room temperatures as well as restrictions on hot water supply are to be expected. Please note that it may take until Thursday afternoon for room temperatures to return to normal.

Where possible, we recommend using the Juridicum and Computer Science/Mathematics reading rooms, which will not be affected by the district heating interruption. If you still wish to visit the reading rooms mentioned above, please dress warmly. You are also welcome to bring blankets and thermos flasks.
