Travel literature in the Library Lounge

As a "library within a library", the Library Lounge offers a selection of current and popular literature.
For inspiration and planning for the upcoming holiday and holiday season, please refer to the selection of travel guides and reports there.
All university members and external users can take these out on site and check them out at the Central Library's circulation desk.

Reading room opening hours on Whitsun (8 and 9 June)

The Central Library and the Nikolakloster, Business/Economics and Juridicum reading rooms will open from 10:00 to 18:00 on Whit Sunday, 8 June and Whit Monday, 9 June 2025.
The Computer Science & Mathematics reading room will remain closed on those days.

University Library: New support services for international students

Effective immediately, the University Library is offering new English-language services specifically for international students, including a weekly drop-in hour available both in person and on Zoom (Stud.IP.: 91919). The Central Library and reading rooms Nikolakloster, Business/Economics and Juridicum will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 on Labour Day, 1 May. The Computer Science & Mathematics reading room will be closed all day.

OPUS Passau limited or unavailable until 25 April

Due to a server move, the University's repository, OPUS Passau, will only be available for read-only access from 22 April and 23 April; unfortunately, it will not be possible to upload documents during this time.
On 24 April, the service is expected to be unavailable from 9:00 to 18:00.

As planned, the platform will be fully available again from Friday 25 April.

Research data repository RADAR Passau

The University of Passau has taken a further step towards promoting traceable, reproducible and transparent research data. Through the RADAR (Research Data Repository) service of the FIZ Karlsruhe - Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure, a cross-disciplinary university repository has been set up in which university researchers can archive and publish research data from their completed studies and projects.

The repository enables data to be stored securely and efficiently for at least 10 years via bitstream preservation in accordance with the university's research data policy. In the workspace, data packages can be compiled collaboratively and described with metadata. It is also possible to have data packages reviewed before publication and to set an embargo. Furthermore, a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is assigned so that the data publication can be found and cited permanently. Data providers can decide for themselves which research data should be shared publicly and which should only be archived, and can define the terms of use for their research data with the selected licence. The repository and the technical infrastructure are in accordance with current German law and copies are stored at 3 different geographical locations in academic data centres in Germany.

In the first phase, the RADAR Passau repository will primarily be used for third-party funded projects that have not yet been deposited in subject-specific or generic repositories.

The Research Data Management working group warmly invites researchers to take part in upcoming training courses and information events and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about using RADAR Passau.

Your full name;
Your responsible institution at the university (chair, professorship, etc.);
Information about your project (project title, third-party funding organisation, duration);
how much data volume you need for your project in RADAR Passau.

Early closure of the Economics reading room on 5 April at 3 pm

On Saturday, 5 April 2025, the Economics & Business Administration reading room will only be open until 3 p.m. due to a short-term staff shortage.
Please switch to the other reading rooms if necessary.
