Reserve collections for subjects covered in the Book Tower and in the basement are located in the collection area.
Short-term loans for use in the reading rooms against deposit of library card or student ID:

|Reading desks||There are currently 276 reading desks. 12 of which are located in the notebook-free zone in the gallery (west wing).|
Wi-Fi access is available in the Central Library and all other reading rooms.

17 reading desks in 10 lockable cubicles in the west and east galleries. Reserved for postgraduates (doctoral and postdoctoral researchers) – registration is required. For more information and to have the keys issued to you, contact the check-out desk on the ground floor.

|Scanners and copiers|
There are 326 electronically operated daytime lockers. You need your Mensacard to use these. Like the coin-operated lockers, they are free to use. However, to discourage permanent use of these lockers, you will be charged a minimum of 5 euros if the locker is not emptied by the closing time of the relevant reading room.
Longer-term lockers for students writing their dissertation or thesis are available free of charge but in very limited supply. More Information.
|Bag/rucksack policy||You may not take any bags or rucksacks/backpacks, etc. into the reading room. What kinds of bags are permitted in the reading rooms?|
|Mobile phone policy||Mobile phones must be set to 'silent mode' while in the library. You may not make phone calls or listen to voicemail messages. You are allowed to receive text messages, but only with the phone set to 'silent mode' (i.e. no acoustic notifications). Non-excessive use of your mobile phone is permitted in the Library Lounge, as long as you keep the noise level to a minimum. You may use your mobile phone as normal in the specially designated mobile phone area in the Central Library ('Handy-Zone'). This area is located behind the Scan_Box.|
|Food and drink|
You must not consume food or beverages in the reading room. However, you may bring drinking water onto the premises in a transparent, sealable glass or plastic bottle.
|Behaviour while in the library|
|Break discs ('Pausenscheibe')||Break discs should be set to indicate when you leave your desk and intend to return later on. If you do not return within the next 60 minutes, or if you do not leave a break disc indicating when you left, other users have the right to use your desk space, see Desk reservation discs to prevent permanent desk occupancy|
